well, the miserable week that was racing at hollywood park comes to an end with a less than stellar sunday card. what otherwise would've been a nice feature race has turned into an unbettable four horse affair. alas, let's play the hand that's deal to us.
r2: newark. westward star is going to be the huge favorite, and deservedly so as he's going great guns right now. however, he's got both a sprinter's pedigree and a sprinter's stride, which may make it difficult to get the mile distance. i'm going to try and beat him with newark. these turf paradise shippers haven't done as well this meet as in the past, but he's coming off a nice stakes win and lewis should have him legged up for his best. can he beat 'star and the other locals? not sure, but i think i'm going to get a huge price to find out.
r3: minister's wild cat. i know, i just complained about this race, but if 'wildcat is 9/5 or better, i'm betting him. he's bred to be a superstar and has been training well in the mornings. he should have a clear pace advantage in here and i look for him to ramble gate to wire. if the public jumps on him, just pass the race.
r5: charm a song. wow- i remember whenthis horse broke her maiden almost a year ago to the day- needed her to hit my pick 6 and she came through. quite tellingly, i never bet her after that; however, today she looks like she's in a great spot off the layoff. devious impact is the horse to beat in my opinion, but i think barrera has this gal ready to rumble today, and at a much better price than 'impact. this is a great betting race and 'song should offer good value in here.
r8: nazirali. nazirali comes back at his best distance for canani and this field is just loaded with question marks. really the only horse of any substance is puerto banus and that looks like your cold exacta. 'naz has trained well since the grueling san juan capistrano (1 3/4M) and now looks to mow these all down in the lane.
that's all from hollywood-- the last few pathetic cards from hollywood has allowed me to venture out into the simulcasting morass. i do like a few plays--
churchill race 3- #4 swift trick. bred to win early and should be a price in a loaded race.
churchil race 10- #9 tc's girl- fits one of my longshot angles. could run dead last, but will be a huge, huge price.
